Signs You Need a Roof Replacement
Granules Collecting in Your Gutters
Finding a buildup of granules in your gutters or at the base of downspouts is one of the clearest signs your shingles are breaking down — especially after a hailstorm, where hail impact can knock loose large amounts of granules at once. Granule loss exposes the shingle underneath to UV and weather damage, accelerating wear across the whole roof.
Your Roof is Reaching the End of Its Lifespan
Asphalt shingle roofs typically last 15-25 years, and metal roofs can go much longer — but as a roof ages, it becomes more prone to leaks, wind damage, and failing seals even without an obvious single problem. If your roof is approaching or past its expected lifespan, replacement is often more cost-effective than continuing to patch it.
Repairs Keep Coming Back
If you’ve had the same area repaired more than once, or you’re noticing new problems shortly after a repair, that’s usually a sign the roof as a whole has worn out rather than just having an isolated issue.
Shingles In The Yard
Finding loose shingles in your yard is a clear sign your roof needs an inspection — it usually means the shingle seal has failed and the nails holding it down have worked loose, leaving only a layer of felt between your attic and the elements.
Shingles Missing on Roof
Gaps where shingles are missing or have slid out of place leave your roof exposed to the elements. Shingles are your home’s main defense against leaks, so missing ones can quickly lead to costly interior damage if the problem isn’t addressed.
Visible Sagging
If your roof deck is visibly sagging or dipping, it means the wood underneath has been weakened by water damage over time. Depending on how widespread the damage is, this can sometimes be addressed with a repair — but when sagging affects a large section of the roof, a full replacement is often the more practical and cost-effective fix rather than repairing one weak spot after another.
Leak in ceiling
Water stains on your ceiling — especially ones that grow or reappear after rain — are a sign of an active roof leak, even if there’s no visible damage from outside. A single leak is often fixable with a repair, but if you’re seeing stains in multiple rooms, or the same spot keeps coming back after being patched, it may point to a larger issue that’s better solved with a full replacement.
Hail Damage & Insurance Claims
Hail is one of the most common causes of roof damage in Central Texas, and it’s not always obvious from the ground. If a recent storm has come through your area, we’ll inspect your roof, work directly with your insurance company, and handle the entire claims process — all you have to do is pick your colors and we do the rest

What Hail Damage Looks Like
Hail damage isn’t always obvious from the ground, which is why a proper roof inspection matters. Up close, dented vents and gutters are two of the clearest signs a storm has hit your roof. On the shingles themselves, hail knocks granules loose in the pattern of the impact — leaving small, circular bare spots that are easy to miss unless you’re actually on the roof looking for them.
We Help You Through the Insurance Claims Process
Filing an insurance claim can feel overwhelming, so we handle it with you every step of the way. We pull a HailTrace weather report specific to your home, showing exactly when your property was hit by hail, how many times, how large the hail was, and how strong the winds were. We also use drones to photograph the damage up close, giving your insurance company clear documentation to work from. We meet your adjuster at the home for the inspection, and if the initial estimate misses damage — whether that’s your roof, gutters, siding, or windows — we submit a supplemental request to make sure everything gets covered and replaced. We do the job for exactly what your insurance approves — no more, so the only thing you pay out of pocket is your deductible.
Something that catches a lot of people off guard is that Texas law (Insurance Code Chapter 707, from House Bill 2102) requires policyholders to pay their own deductible on a property insurance claim. It’s illegal for a contractor to pay, waive, rebate, or otherwise help you avoid paying it — doing so is a Class B misdemeanor, punishable by up to 180 days in jail and a $2,000 fine. Some contractors, especially storm chasers, offer to cover your deductible to win your business. Steer clear of anyone who makes that offer.
Why a Full Replacement Is Often the Right Call After Hail
Hail damage doesn’t always mean a full replacement is necessary — but when it is, timing matters. Many insurance policies set their own deadline for reporting storm damage, sometimes as short as a year from the date of the storm, and missing that window can mean losing your ability to file a claim at all. If a storm has hit your area, it’s worth getting an inspection sooner rather than later, even if you don’t see obvious damage yet. When you do file, we handle everything your insurance company needs — photos, drone footage, and full documentation — for a smooth claims process.

Common Roof Replacement Situations
Upgrading to a Class 4 Impact-Resistant Shingle
After hail damage, many homeowners choose to upgrade to Class 4 impact-resistant shingles during their replacement — offering better protection against future storms, and sometimes even qualifying for an insurance premium discount. That added durability also means fewer future claims and less spent on deductibles over time.
Rental Needs a New Roof
Three-tab shingles are the most affordable option available, but they’re also the most prone to damage. We typically only install them on rental properties or house flips, where they’re a practical, budget-friendly fit if you’re planning to move or sell soon — but for a home you’re living in long-term, we wouldn’t recommend them.
Insurance Requires a New Roof
Some insurance companies require a full roof replacement before they’ll renew your policy or provide coverage — especially if your roof is aging or has accumulated damage over time. We can help you understand what your insurer requires and get the work done to keep your coverage in place.
Long Lasting Beauty of Metal Roof
For homeowners looking for the longest-lasting option, we install Lifetime Class 4 metal roofing with a snap-lock, hidden-screw system built for lasting durability — available in a wide range of colors to match your home’s style.
Selling Your House
A damaged roof can derail a home sale at the worst possible time — a bad inspection report can delay closing or give buyers leverage to renegotiate. Replacing your roof before listing helps you avoid last-minute surprises and keeps your sale on schedule.

Materials & Brands We Work With
Asphalt Shingle Roofing
We install asphalt shingle roofing from two of the most trusted names in the industry — GAF and Owens Corning. Both offer excellent durability and a range of styles, including Class 4 impact-resistant options, so the choice often comes down to your personal preference and budget.
GAF
- Royal Sovereign — 3-tab entry-level shingle, a solid budget-friendly option we typically recommend for rental properties or if you don’t plan on staying in your house for long
- Timberline HDZ — GAF’s most popular architectural shingle, built with LayerLock Technology for a wider nailing zone and strong wind resistance, plus algae-resistant StainGuard Plus protection.
- Timberline AS II — A Class 4 impact-resistant version of the Timberline line, built to stand up to hail while still carrying the same algae protection and wind warranty benefits.
- Timberline UHDZ — GAF’s premium dimensional shingle, thicker and heavier than HDZ with deeper shadow lines for a richer, more upscale wood-shake look.
- Grand Sequoia — A designer-tier shingle with a more sophisticated, textured appearance and strong wind resistance, offering a higher-end look for homeowners wanting extra curb appeal.
Owens Corning
- Supreme — 3-tab entry-level shingle, an affordable option offering solid wind and algae resistance for homeowners on a tighter budget.
- Duration — Owens Corning’s flagship dimensional shingle, built with SureNail Technology for a stronger hold and improved wind resistance, with a rich, textured color palette.
- Duration Storm — A Class 4 impact-resistant version of Duration, built to better withstand hail and flying debris while keeping the same dimensional style and durability.
- Oakridge — Owens Corning’s entry-level architectural shingle, offering better durability and curb appeal than a standard 3-tab at a similarly accessible price.
Metal Roofing
We install durable, long-lasting metal roofing in a range of profiles and colors, custom-fabricated on-site for a finished look built specifically for your home rather than an off-the-shelf fit. Most of our metal roofing carries a Class 4 impact rating to stand up to Texas hailstorms, along with a Class A fire rating that makes it non-combustible and resistant to wind-driven embers.
Materials are supplied by Sheffield Metals and McElroy, giving you a wide range of colors and styles. Options include:
- R-Panel — A durable, cost-effective metal roofing option.
- Snap-Lock — A concealed fastener system, so there are no exposed screws.
One thing worth knowing: even metal roofing built to withstand hail can still show cosmetic dents without actually being damaged structurally. We recommend adding cosmetic coverage to your insurance policy so your roof is protected even if hail dents the panels without penetrating them.
Our Process
Inspection & Consultation
- Prior to site visit, we pull a weather history report detailing storms at your address for the last 10 years, which is used as part of any insurance claim.
- One of our owners will visit your home to talk through what happened — when the storm hit, what damage you’ve noticed, and how long it’s been going on.
- We’ll find out where you are in the insurance process and what steps you’ve already taken, so we can pick up right where you left off.
- We inspect your roof for signs of damage, including using drones to reach steep or hard-to-access areas.
- We order a satellite report of the property for roof measurements.
- If your claim is already approved, we’ll review your options for scope of work, materials, upgrades, and recommendations.
- If your insurance claim hasn’t been approved yet, we’ll walk you through the next steps.
- We’ll also provide color and design samples for you to look through before we move forward.
Material Delivery
- Prior to delivery, the homeowner should move any plants or items to a protected area or away from the house to avoid damage. Tarps will be used, but it’s safer to move them.
- We’ll work with you to decide where ground-dropped materials and the debris trailer should go.
- Your roofing material is delivered either the day before or the day of the job, depending on scheduling.
- Roof-loaded delivery — where shingles are placed directly onto the roof — keeps the job moving efficiently, and we use it whenever the delivery service is able to. When that’s not available, materials are delivered on pallets and positioned in the driveway near the house instead.
- Trash trailers are also normally positioned in the driveway near the house.
Tear-Off & Decking Assessment
- Tarps are laid down to cover the work area around the house.
- We completely remove your old roofing and felt paper down to the decking, identifying and replacing any rotten or damaged decking before moving forward. Any change orders that come up along the way are discussed and approved with you before work continues.
- Vent boots and caps are removed and the openings cleaned up.
- We clear the decking of any loose debris or nails before the next step.
Underlayment & Protection
- We install synthetic underlayment over the decking, giving your roof an added layer of protection — no more felt paper.
- We install ice and water shield in the valleys and around the vents, protecting your home before the new roofing goes on.
- We install a new drip edge along the perimeter of the roof.
New Roof Installation
- We install new starter shingles along the roof edge.
- We install new shingles starting at the lower portion of the roof and work up.
- We install a new ridge vent ventilation system at peaks where possible and recommended.
- We install new ridge shingles over the ridge vent.
- We then caulk and paint any pipes and caps.
Cleanup & Final Walkthrough
- Jobsite cleanup happens throughout the project, though we recommend staying clear of the exterior perimeter while work is underway.
- We clean up and haul away all job-related debris.
- Before we consider the job done, we walk the entire property and go over the yard with a magnetic sweeper to pick up any stray roofing nails, so your family, pets, and vehicles stay safe.
- We’ll also review your warranty and send over your final invoice for your records.

We have friends who have had JamesHardie siding on their home for years and have always loved the quality and durability of the product. So, when it came time to replace the siding on our home, we reached out for samples and were soon contacted by EMC Remodeling. We met with Matt right away, he walked us through the various choices and helped us with the design. We received a quote and were able to schedule the work soon after. We were extremely pleased with every work team that came to our home. Each team demonstrated great attention to detail, cleaned up at the end of each day, and left our property in great shape. We are very pleased with the finished product and overall experience. Our new JamesHardie siding looks beautiful, and we would recommend EMC Remodeling to anyone considering a siding project.Posted on Google![]()

FAQ
Does insurance cover roof replacement, and can you help me get more covered
If your roof has storm or hail damage, your insurance will typically cover the replacement. We meet with your adjuster during the inspection, and if the initial estimate misses damage, we submit a supplemental request to make sure everything is properly covered. We do the job for exactly what your insurance approves — no more — so the only thing you pay out of pocket is your deductible.
Should I stay home during my roof replacement?
You don’t need to be home during your roof replacement. If you are home, we’ll check in with you throughout the day so you’re kept in the loop, but there’s no requirement to be present for the work to get done.
How long does roof replacement take?
A full roof replacement is typically completed in one day, assuming good weather. If weather causes any delays, we’ll keep you updated on timing.
What's included in a roof replacement?
A full roof replacement includes complete tear-off of your old roofing, replacement of any rotten or damaged decking, and full synthetic underlayment and ice and water shield protection. We also install new vents or ridgevent as part of the job, before your new asphalt shingle or metal roof goes on. We’ll deliver your materials the day of or before the job and complete the work in one day depending on the size of the roof when weather cooperates.
Are gutters included in a roof replacement?
If your gutters have sustained hail damage, we’ll make sure they’re included in your claim — filing a supplemental request if they weren’t part of the original estimate — and replace them once covered. We also offer new gutter and downspout installation if your home doesn’t already have one.
Do you offer financing?
Yes — we offer financing options on all of our projects, so cost doesn’t have to be a barrier to getting the work done right.
Do you handle permits?
Yes — we handle all permitting for your project, so you don’t have to navigate that process yourself.
